WHAT ROLE DO CORPORATIONS PLAY IN FOOD ADDICTION?

For my fifth assignment I decided to do an awareness poster on how corporations affect food addiction. The reason I did this poster was to show how corporations do not care about the effects of their products, only the billions of dollars that they make (Voiland and Haupt). I also decided to include doctors for multiple reasons. The most important reason being that, to spare feelings, doctors tend to beat around the bush rather than tell a food addict plain and simple what is happening so they will come back to their offices. The second reason is because the rapid increase of obesity, which is thirty percent today or two billion people, is not stopping (Sifferlin). The only thing that doctors seem to be doing to stop this rapid growth is tell us to stop, but not how to stop. I showed all of this through my awareness poster by drawing a businessman, a doctor, and an obese man. I put spotlights on the doctor and the businessman, but kept the obese man in the dark. I did this to show that they know what is really happening to us an are continuously keeping us in the dark. To show that the corporations and doctors are driven by money I included money flying in both of their directions from the obese mans wallet. I also made the obese man confused as to why the money is disappearing so quickly, even though there is a chocolate bar in his hand. I decided to make the awareness statement on the poster “we only know what they tell us” to provide more insight into the picture, as well as, get the message across about how much we truly do not know about the corporate side of food.

This source includes specific statistics about the world's obesity rates and populations. Since the article was published in a magazine, it helped in understanding a more societal view rather than it being in the format of an in detailed study. This view helped with the awareness poster to be able to capture the public's eye with more cutting edge statistics instead of describing an experiment.

This source provides entail on the darker side of the food corporations that were the main focus of the awareness poster. It gave specific statistics and details about the depths of the food industry world that have been released over the years that were meant to stay secrets. These facts helped with the awareness poster to be able to rightfully portray the corporate side of food addiction.
